investors in the digital asset market.
India’s digital asset market continues to evolve, with certain cities and age groups emerging as significant drivers of crypto investment. A recent report from CoinSwitch, India’s Crypto Portfolio: How India Invests Q3 2025, provides fresh insights into where Indians are investing, and who is making the most gains.
Delhi-NCR: India’s Leading Crypto Investment Center
Delhi-NCR has maintained its position as the country’s foremost hub for cryptocurrency investment, representing 19.3% of total digital holdings nationwide. The region also reported that 65.3% of portfolios were profitable, suggesting a growing focus on disciplined, long-term investment strategies over short-term speculation.
CoinSwitch attributes this success to enhanced financial literacy and broader acceptance of digital assets in balanced portfolios. Investors in Delhi-NCR tend to diversify across large-cap tokens (36.1%), mid-cap assets (32%), and blue-chip coins (25%), reflecting a strategic approach to risk management.
Gen Z Surpasses Millennials as Dominant Investor Group
For the first time, Gen Z (ages 18–25) has overtaken millennials as the largest demographic in India’s crypto market. They now represent 37.6% of all crypto participants, narrowly surpassing the 26–35 age group at 37.3%. Investors aged 36–45 account for 17.8% of the market.
This shift highlights the growing engagement of younger, tech-savvy individuals in financial markets and signals the potential for sustained market growth over the next decade.
Kolkata and Other High-Performing Cities
While Delhi-NCR leads in volume and activity, Kolkata emerged as the most profitable city, with 77% of portfolios showing gains. Bengaluru and Mumbai also ranked highly in investment activity, maintaining strong positions alongside Delhi-NCR.
The busiest trading month in the quarter was July 2025, coinciding with Bitcoin’s rally and regulatory developments such as the US GENIUS Act, which stimulated market activity.
Towards a More Mature Crypto Market
According to Balaji Srihari, Vice President at CoinSwitch, India’s crypto sector is entering a more mature phase, with adoption gradually spreading beyond major metros. Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities are expected to drive the next wave of growth, offering new opportunities for investors nationwide.
CoinSwitch emphasizes that these findings are based on platform-specific data and may not fully represent the entire Indian crypto market, but they provide a clear picture of current trends and emerging investor behaviors.
Conclusion
India’s crypto landscape is evolving rapidly, with younger investors, metropolitan hubs, and disciplined strategies shaping the market. As digital assets become increasingly integrated into diversified portfolios, understanding where and how investments are being made can offer valuable insights for both new and experienced participants.
